Stacy Brown defends her thesis on New River microbiomes

Congratulations to Stacy Brown, next MS student in the MMG lab to successfully defend her thesis “Microbial Community and Water Quality Assessment of Crassostrea virginica Habitats in Southeast Florida”. Her project was an interesting convergence of her community organizing and participation (Urban Farming Institute, SFAEP) on local water quality (oyster rehabilitation) and using microbiome profiles to characterize water quality. Stacy was an integral part of the GIGA team working with Tara Chadwick, Jody Hastings, George Duncan and myself to characterize water quality on the New River for BW and the Sistrunk community- http://www.gigacos.org/…/new-river-biodiversity-and…/ . Thanks to Andrew Ozga and Erik Neugaard for serving on her committee and to the lab for their support.
