GIGA holds its 4th conference online, with many highlights

The GIGA IV conference (https://giga4.sciencesconf.org/) ran November 16 – 18, 2021, and was put together fairly quickly, on the heels of a larger genomics conference – Biodiversity Genomics 2021 (https://www.darwintreeoflife.org/news_item/biodiversity-genomics-2021-sequencing-genomes-across-the-planet/). Nonetheless, GIGA IV was organized by Jean François Flot with a turnout of 141 total registrants. Early Career Researchers from the European IGNITE training network http://www.itn-ignite.eu/ provided updates on their nearly completed doctoral projects. Special sessions on PCI Genomics (https://genomics.peercommunityin.org/), the genomics of mollusks and lesser known invertebrates were held. Thanks to all of the participants. GIGA also announced results of its second set of elections for the next governing board: Todd Oakley – President; Vanessa Gonzalez – VP for Conferences, Maria Carmen (Menchie) Ablan-Lagman – VP for Early Career/Fellowships, Joe Lopez – VP for Fund Raising/Development, and student/early career representative – Kate Castellano. Congratulations! to all of our newly elected board members, and thanks to all of the volunteer candidates, the non partisan election committee and the outgoing members for their great efforts these past two years. Recordings of most of the GIGA IV talks will be available at this link for at least the next few weeks -https://tinyurl.com/ycycteu4.
